Creating Custom Images for your Classes – An Introduction to BioRender (In-Person Session)

Tuesday, September 20, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Free

A picture can say a thousand words, but it can be challenging to find or create images that say the right “thousand words” and sometimes you really just want to say a hundred.  Importantly, using concise, consistent images (e.g. colors; styles) reduces students’ extraneous cognitive loads – mental energy spent ignoring parts of images not relevant to the discussion, orienting themselves to new color patterns, etc.  This workshop will focus on using BioRender, an image creation tool free through the Howe Library that’s focused on the life sciences, to create your own figures for your class.  Beyond the basic how to’s, we’ll look at situations where other image tools may be more useful and there will be time for you to start working on your own image.

Facilitated by Laura Almstead, Senior Lecturer in Plant Biology

Please reserve this time on your calendar. This IN-PERSON event will take place in 303 Howe Memorial Library.
