TA Roundtable: Grading and Assessment (Online Session)
Thursday, December 8, 2022 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm
FreeSo, you’ve become a teaching assistant (TA)… now what? Supporting an instructor, program, or department in planning, instructing, or assessing designated course curricula can be complicated. But you’re not alone! Come discuss your experiences as a TA with fellow students working through similar situations. All graduate TAs, graduate teaching assistants (GTAs), and undergraduate TAs are welcome.
This session focuses on grading and assessment. As a TA, you are often tasked with assessing, critiquing, and grading student work without having designed the course or developed the learning objectives. Navigating grading in a fair and thorough way can be difficult and time consuming. We’ll discuss how you can manage end of semester time constraints and share how you can approach assessment to best fit our course, instructor, and students.
We’ll have some light reading, “Reframing Learning Goals through Assessment,” from Armstrong et al.’s Teaching gradually: Practical Pedagogy for Graduate Students, by Graduate Students (2021).
**This workshop counts toward the Graduate Teaching Program workshop credit.**
Facilitated by Michael Tobin, WID Graduate Research Assistant
Please reserve this time on your calendar; you will receive a Teams invitation prior to the event.
