Learning Takes Time–Large-scale Projects and Labs (in-person or webinar)
Monday, November 4, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm
FreeThis is one of a series of short events called Sound (Teaching) Bites. One way to promote active learning in the classroom is to integrate large-scale projects or laboratory assignments. In this short presentation, Nicole Phelps will provide an example of this approach through her Bibliography Festival assignment, which provides History students with practical experience identifying different types of texts and citing them properly. She’ll discuss how she has addressed some of the challenges to adopting this type of assignment, including time management, group dynamics, constraints imposed by physical space, and strategies for motivating students to maximize their effort and thus maximize their learning.
Presenter: Nicole Phelps, History, CTL Faculty Associate
