Facilitated Group Discussions: an engagement technique for promoting equity and connection

FreeThis session will illustrate a variety of uses of a Facilitated Group Discussions (FGD) technique. FGD is a promising way to structure small group discussions to promote accountability, full engagement, and community among students in university classrooms. This technique can be used in lecture classes, smaller seminars, and doctoral level courses. We will explore a method to structure the discussions and assess them (and students’ participation).
Dr. Shana Haines, CTL Faculty Associates and Associate Professor, College of Education and Social Services, will share examples from her courses that use this technique.
