SUMMARY:Brightspace Migration Lab: Spotlight on Grades (CANCELLED)
DESCRIPTION:This workshop covers the details about how to approach the Grades area in your migrated Brightspace course. We will demonstrate where to find the grade book in Brightspace and offer options for your next steps. Some instructors may find it beneficial to create your Grades area anew rather than editing what has been migrated from Blackboard. This session will help you decide what option is the best for your course. Enrollment is limited so we can better your address specific questions. \nYou will receive a Microsoft Teams calendar invitation the afternoon prior to your event explaining how to join and participate in the meeting.  If you click “accept\,” it will populate on your Teams calendar for easy access!

SUMMARY:TA Roundtable: Building Community Using Restorative Practices
DESCRIPTION:So\, you’ve become a teaching assistant (TA)… now what? Supporting an instructor\, program\, or department in planning\, instructing\, or assessing designated course curricula can be complicated. But you’re not alone! Come discuss your experiences as a TA with fellow students working through similar situations. All undergraduate TAs\, graduate TAs\, and graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) are welcome.\n \nThis session will focus on restorative practices as a TA. Teaching assistants often navigate potentially awkward or tense situations between students\, faculty\, and even themselves. Building community in and out of the classroom can create a strong foundation for future relationships. We’ll define restorative and transformative practices\, brainstorm how we are already implementing them in our practice\, and different skills we can learn together.\n \nHere is a chapter from the book\, Remote Teaching: a Guide for Teaching Assistants  you may find helpful for context and can serve as an opening for our discussion: https://ecampusontario.pressbooks.pub/teachingassistants/chapter/community/\n \n**This workshop counts toward the Graduate Teaching Program workshop credit.**\n\nFacilitated by Maddy Pimental\, CTL Graduate Assistant\n\nHave an idea for a future roundtable topic? Let us know!

SUMMARY:Brightspace Migration Lab: Spotlight on Content & Course Organization
DESCRIPTION:How your content displays in your migrated Brightspace course depends on your Blackboard organizational choices. In this lab\, we’ll show you strategies for handling some of the common organizational challenges. This session will be particularly helpful if your Blackboard course contained a multi-level folder structure\, multiple Blackboard “Items” in folders\, and had a complex Course Menu. SUMMARY:Podcast Listening and Discussion: Engaging Students in Large Enrollment courses (hybrid event)
DESCRIPTION:ODLI on Air is a podcast from the Office of Digital Learning and Innovation at West Chester University. In their conversations with WCU faculty experts\, they explore perspectives on teaching and learning\, drawing connections between theory and practice. This episode draws on Dr. Adam Rainear’s experiences teaching in large lecture settings\, and he shares many tips and techniques he uses for engaging students. \nThere are two ways to participate in this event:\nJoin us either in Howe Library\, Room 303\, or join us on Teams to listen to “Strategies for Teaching in Large Lecture Settings with Dr. Adam Rainear.” \nWe’ll listen to the episode together (it’s about 30 minutes) and spend the rest of the time talking about what we’ve heard. If you are participating remotely\, you can listen to the podcast on your own device and join us via Teams for the discussion. \nPlease reserve this time on your calendar! You will receive a Microsoft Teams calendar invitation the afternoon prior to your event explaining how to join and participate in the meeting. If you click “accept\,” it will populate on your Teams calendar for easy access. If you’re joining us in person\, just ignore the link.

SUMMARY:Facilitated Group Discussions: an engagement technique for promoting equity and connection
DESCRIPTION:This session will illustrate a variety of uses of a Facilitated Group Discussions (FGD) technique. FGD is a promising way to structure small group discussions to promote accountability\, full engagement\, and community among students in university classrooms. This technique can be used in lecture classes\, smaller seminars\, and doctoral level courses. We will explore a method to structure the discussions and assess them (and students’ participation). \nDr. Shana Haines\, CTL Faculty Associates and Associate Professor\, College of Education and Social Services\, will share examples from her courses that use this technique.

SUMMARY:Communicating with Students About AI/ChatGPT
DESCRIPTION:WID’s recent events have been full of rich conversations among instructors exploring the complicated ways artificial intelligence tools affect teaching and learning. It’s equally important that we include students in these conversations.  In this session\, we will explore classroom policies and syllabi statements that convey appropriate AI use and/or limits for in varying contexts\, and how students might acknowledge such use. We will also discuss how our expectations about these tools connect with UVM’s Code of Academic Integrity.  Participants will be provided with a range of sample policies\, statements\, and guiding prompts and given time to begin drafting language for their future assignments or syllabi during the workshop.  \nPlease reserve this time on your calendar! You will receive a Microsoft Teams calendar invitation the afternoon prior to your event explaining how to join and participate in the meeting.  If you click “accept\,” it will populate on your Teams calendar for easy access!

SUMMARY:TA Roundtable: Navigating Communication and Relationships with Students and Instructors
All undergraduate TAs\, graduate TAs\, and graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) are welcome. \nThis session will focus on TA relationships and communication with both students and instructors. Teaching assistants often serve as an intermediary figure in between students and faculty. Whether you are working alongside a faculty member or teaching your own course and reporting to your program director\, as a TA\, you have to navigate communication with both parties. \nHere is a chapter from the book\, Remote Teaching: a Guide for Teaching Assistants  you may find helpful for context and can serve as an opening for our discussion:      https://ecampusontario.pressbooks.pub/teachingassistants/chapter/communication/  \n**This workshop counts toward the Graduate Teaching Program workshop credit.** \nFacilitated by Michael Tobin\, WID Graduate Research Assistant \nHave an idea for a future roundtable topic? Let us know! \nPlease reserve this time on your calendar! You will receive a Microsoft Teams calendar invitation the afternoon prior to your event explaining how to join and participate in the meeting.  If you click “accept\,” it will populate on your Teams calendar for easy access!
