SUMMARY:Making Your Syllabus Work for You and Your Students
DESCRIPTION:A well-designed syllabus is more than a way to explain your course to students. A good syllabus thoughtfully connects your assignments\, activities\, and assessments to course goals\, thus preparing you for more effective and efficient grading through the semester. A good syllabus also supports students\, a matter we will consider through a lens of inclusion and equity.  During this workshop\, you’ll begin editing your syllabus and will leave with a plan for final revisions that use your new ideas about how the content and language of a syllabus can serve you and your students.  \nDuring the first half\, our focus will be on how well your syllabus serves your core goals and makes explicit connections between those course goals and your other assignments and activities. By taking time now to solidify these connections using principles of backwards design\, you set yourself up for easier grading and responding later in the semester.   \nDuring the second half\, we’ll explore how your syllabus welcomes students\, whether it connects with students as the you had hoped\, how it can either demystify or complicate students understanding of the course and campus supports\, and how it serves student inclusion and equity. \nFacilitated by Susanmarie Harrington\, Center for Teaching and Learning & Writing in the Disciplines\, & Holly Buckland Parker\, Center for Teaching and Learning \nYou will receive a Microsoft Teams calendar invitation the afternoon prior to your event explaining how to join and participate in the meeting.  If you click “accept\,” it will populate on your Teams calendar for easy access!

SUMMARY:iClicker Student Response System: Engaging Your Students in Their Own Learning
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, we discuss how teaching with the iClicker Student Response System can enhance student engagement and understanding\, especially in large enrollment courses. Faculty can now use the iClicker app to poll students and get instant feedback on whether students understand concepts presented during lecture and in pre-class readings. UVM has a site license for the iClicker Student App as of Fall 2021. \nThis workshop also covers the technical aspects of using iClicker Cloud\, the preferred instructor software for administering iClicker polls and grades. There will be opportunities for attendees to ask additional questions. iClicker Cloud supports a variety of question types\, and is entirely based in the cloud for easy administration. iClicker Cloud also supports hand-held iClicker remotes. \nFacilitated by Holly Buckland Parker. \nYou will receive a Microsoft Teams calendar invitation the afternoon prior to your event explaining how to join and participate in the meeting.  If you click “accept\,” it will populate on your Teams calendar for easy access!

SUMMARY:Faculty Roundtable: Considering Tests and Exams
DESCRIPTION:How has the experience of moving all or most instruction online—and then back in person—affected the ways you think about testing and exams? \nIn this session\, we’ll explore ways that online testing can play a role in in-person classes—and the ways that pandemic experiences have led some instructors to re-conceive their approaches to testing. \nFacilitated by CTL Faculty Associates\, Laura Almstead\, Allison Anacker\, Eva Cosoroaba\, and Laura Marthaler

SUMMARY:Blackboard Grade Center
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will show you how to set up the Blackboard Grade Center to make it work for you and keep students informed about their current grades. We’ll also show you how to verify its weighted grade calculations and how to troubleshoot problems. \nThe Grade Center is essentially a spreadsheet that can be customized to calculate your students’ weighted grades as they proceed through the course. It’s tied to the tools you’ve set up in your course for graded assignments\, it can also include columns for grades that are not linked to Blackboard tools. It’s a robust tool that provides many grading features\, such as grouping like-assignments in order to drop the lowest grade. \nFacilitated by Inés Berrizbeitia. \nYou will receive a Microsoft Teams calendar invitation the afternoon prior to your event explaining how to join and participate in the meeting.  If you click “accept\,” it will populate on your Teams calendar for easy access!

SUMMARY:Responding to Final Writing Projects
DESCRIPTION:When students no longer have a next assignment to complete\, and when their work will no longer be revised\, how can you use your responding time effectively to the benefit of both you and your students? Join colleagues to talk about adjusting your response strategies for the particular context of the semester’s end. \nFacilitated by Susanmarie Harrington\, Writing in the Disciplines \nYou will receive a Microsoft Teams calendar invitation the afternoon prior to your event explaining how to join and participate in the meeting.  If you click “accept\,” it will populate on your Teams calendar for easy access!

SUMMARY:Rubrics 101 with a Blackboard Tool Demo
DESCRIPTION:Rubrics are often touted as a time-saving approach to grading and responding\, but not every rubric delivers on that promise. This workshop explores principles for making rubrics that work and will guide participants in determining whether rubrics are the right solution to the grading or responding challenges they want to address. We will also demonstrate integrating your rubrics into the Blackboard Rubric Tool; this makes grading in Blackboard much easier! \nFacilitated by Susanmarie Harrington\, Writing in the Disciplines & Ines Berrizbeitia\, Center for Teaching and Learning \nThis workshop will be held virtually via Teams.  You will receive a Microsoft Teams calendar invitation the afternoon prior to your event explaining how to join and participate in the meeting.  If you click “accept\,” it will populate on your Teams calendar for easy access!

SUMMARY:Grad Student Edition: How Are You Doing? - Connecting with Colleagues
DESCRIPTION:An important constant during 20 months of pandemic turmoil has been the critical role of connecting with colleagues when navigating stress\, burnout\, grief\, unanswerable questions\, and increased workloads. We invite grad students to check-in with us and each other\, in an informal\, supportive conversation about the unique challenges of managing another pandemic semester. We’ll attend holistically to each others’ diverse needs by sharing strategies\, listening empathetically\, and more. \nFacilitated by Jen Garrett-Ostermiller & Holly Buckland Parker. \nYou will receive a Microsoft Teams calendar invitation the afternoon prior to your event explaining how to join and participate in the meeting.  If you click “accept\,” it will populate on your Teams calendar for easy access!
