Introduction to Contract Grading & Specifications Grading (Registration Closed)

Microsoft Teams

Are you interested in making your grading more efficient? Would you like to be more confident that your students meet the learning objectives?  Do you want to spend less time worrying about grades and more time interacting with students about what they're learning? In this short "sound bite" session, we'll look at several approaches to, and examples of, contract grading including specifications grading.  If you are interested, you can attend a workshop next week where we will begin to craft materials.

Blackboard Basics and Grade Center (Registration Closed)

Microsoft Teams

Blackboard provides space for you to post materials, communicate with students, provide assessments and other student activities, and enter grades to keep students on track. But what do you need to know before you can create, organize, and use a course? How can you find your way through its many intricacies? In this session we will look at organization strategies, the various tools, and the Grade Center so you can experience just enough to decide if and how you will use it.

This workshop discusses key design choices for a fully remote course. We will discuss two models for a live streaming option in Teams for running remote classes and office hours. Topics include designing the online sessions to help meet your course learning goals while also making the most of the time in synchronous sessions. Also, we will discuss what to have students do for asynchronous activities, and some strategies to make the best use of your strengths as an instructor.

Course Design Considerations for the MIXED Modality (Overview/Q&A) (Registration Closed)

Microsoft Teams

This workshop pertains to teaching in the mixed modality and will be held remotely in Teams. A mixed modality course replaces 25-75% of in-person instruction with online contact hours. Some classes designated in this modality may have the majority of students in Burlington; other classes may be composed of students predominantly learning at home, remotely.  Although the mixed modality places some constraints on how the course is delivered, you retain autonomy in how you design your courses to achieve your pedagogical goals.

Pedagogical Approaches: Backward Inclusive Design

Microsoft Teams

Pivotal Pedagogy 2Pivotal Pedagogy II: This workshop introduces broad principles for designing courses that are inclusive, flexible, and organized to align course goals, assignments, and assessments.   By the end of this workshop, participants will have articulated well-formed goals for a course and have a framework to guide the rest of the planning process.  This workshop distills the main themes of the May Pivotal Pedagogy Course Design Fundamentals workshop, and takes a very hands-on approach to refining course goals and a semester outline.
